As part of the metropolitan city of Rome Italy, Zagarolo is better connected to the center of Rome than many of its own districts. Actually, this is one of the main  reasons why in 1997 we decided to move from Rome to Zagarolo under the dismayed eyes of our  friends who after a few years decided to do the same. Now are the  tourists who, tired of tourist traps, after having worried if it is convenient to stay outside Rome, are arriving more and more to discover this and other little hidden gems just outside Rome where they  savor a new and different way to enjoy their Roman holidays. Private transportation is not needed during your staying in Zagarolo Italy at Olive Tree Hill. However, if you are travelling through Italy with a rental car, to avoid drìving in Rome Italy, a free parking is available at our property. Avoid the hassle of driving and parking in Rome. Leave your car at Olive Tree Hill and travel to Rome by train. It’s an easy, stress-free 30-minute ride.

Olive Tree Hill – Your Home Away From Home

Located in Zagarolo, a charming medioeval town just outside Rome, Olive Tree Hill is the perfect base to visit Rome and explore some of the wonderful surrrounding towns.

A cheap and fast train connection will allow you to reach Rome city center in about 30 min. A free parking spot is available if travelling by car.

A shuttle to/from the local train station will guarantee the connection between Olive Tree Hil and the train station. Other transfer services are available on demand.

How to reach Olive Tree Hill

Rome’s main airport is Leonardo da Vinci (FCO). From this airport, you have three options for reaching Olive Tree Hill:

1) Private Transfer.

We can arrange an airport pick-up; just let us know your flight number and arrival time.

If you’re arriving in the morning, a transfer is a clever way to maximize your vacation time. Our driver can:

  • Drive you to Rome for a day of sightseeing (after providing a map of Rome and giving you a brief overview of the city’s main attractions). Your luggage will be delivered to the B&B, and you can take the train from Rome to Zagarolo later in the day. We’ll pick you up at the Zagarolo train station.
  • Escort you as you tour Rome’s main attractions (for an incremental cost)
  • or Drive you directly to the B&B

2) Train
After you have collected your luggage, enter the airport arrivals hall and follow signs to the trains.

The fastest train option is the Leonardo Express, which departs every 30 minutes to Roma Termini, Rome’s central train station. Tickets are sold on the departure platform and cost approximately 15 euro. Stamp your ticket in a validation machine just before boarding the train; it will expire 90 minutes after validation. (Note: if you have a group of 4 or more people, a transfer is more direct and cost-effective.)

Once in Termini, follow below directions; “Travelling by train”.

3) Rental Car/Driving
When leaving the airport, follow the green sign to Rome. Take the A1 towards Napoli (Naples) and exit at San Cesareo.

Rome’s second airport is G.B. Pastine/Ciampino (CIA), which serves low-cost carriers.

From this airport, you have three options for reaching Olive Tree Hill:

1) Private Transfer.

We can arrange an airport pick-up; just let us know your flight number and arrival time.

2) Bus/Train

After you have collected luggage, exit the airport terminal building and look for the Atral/Schiaffini bus, which stops outside the terminal. The bus departs approximately every 30 minutes on weekdays for the Ciampino train station. Tickets can be purchased on the bus for ~1.20 euro, and the ride to the train station takes about less than 10 minutes.

The Ciampino train station is on the same train route as Zagarolo. From Ciampino, Zagarolo is in the opposite direction from Rome. You can purchase a ticket at the ticket office or newspaper kiosk (ticket price is approximately 2.10 euro). Validate your ticket at the machine before boarding the train.

3) Rental Car/Driving

When leaving the airport, follow the green sign to Rome. Take the A1 towards Napoli (Naples) and exit at San Cesareo.

There are frequent trains from Termini (Rome’s main train station) to Zagarolo.
The trip takes about 30 minutes.

To check train timetable we suggest you to download “trenit!” app. on your phone.
Clicking on the Blue Arrow containing the train code (just below the destination) you can check all the stops along the way.
It will let you feel more comfortable.

Zagarolo is the on the same route as trains to these final destinations:

  • Cassino
  • Frosinone
  • Caserta
  • Colleferro

Before boarding a train, please check the electronic displays in the station to confirm Zagarolo is listed as a stop.

The easiest and fastest way to buy tickets to Zagarolo is by using the machines found within Termini.
However, you can also purchase tickets from the ticket office.
Price for a one-way ticket from Termini to Zagarolo is approximately 2.60 euro.

Train, tickets must be validated in the machines located at the beginning of the track before boarding.

With due notice, a transfer from the station to our B&B is available for our guests.

Traveling from northern Italy, avoid the busy “GRA” (Rome ring road) and take the A1/E35 towards Naples. Exit at San Cesareo and follow the signs to Zagarolo.

Coming from Rome or FCO and CIA airports, take the ring road to the A1 (towards Naples). Exit at San Cesareo and follow the signs to Zagarolo.

Driving from southern Italy, take the A1/E45 towards Rome, exit at San Cesareo and follow the signs to Zagarolo.

Arriving from eastern Italy, take the A24/E80, exit at Tivoli and follow the signs to Zagarolo.

Our address is Via Colle Palazzola 48 in Zagarolo.
Number 48 is  at the end of a narrow dirt road between building number 44 and 56.
The road is narrow and winding. Proceed slowly.
Directions on google maps are accurate and will lead you to our parking lot.
If you have a GPS the coordinates are: Latitude: N 41.834 – Longitude: E 12.825
To preserve quitness and atmosphere you’ll not find signs on the road.

Most cruise ships to Rome dock in Civitavecchia, about an hour and a half away from Rome.

Whether you are in transit with your cruise in Rome or you have a few days to voto Rome, we will be glad to help you make the best of your Roman holidays and let you enyoy the best of Rome and its wonderful surroundings.

2) Train

The cruise ship will likely dock in a restricted area, but will offer a shuttle to the pedestrian port entrance.

From there, you can walk 10-15 minutes along the shore to the Civitavecchia train station. We suggest purchasing a B.I.R.G. ticket, which costs approximately 8 euro.  This ticket entitles you to unlimited use of Rome’s Metro, tram and bus lines for 24 hours and also applies to the trains to Zagarolo.

Trains to Rome leave every hour or so – more frequently during rush hours – and the trip From Civitavecchia to central Rome takes about 90 minutes. Exit the train at Rome’s Termini station and follow our directions on chapter “Travelling by train”.
